Based in Waihau Bay, Cape Runaway, Mark O’Brien manages 1,050 hives which are located on land from Te Kaha through to Omau and out to Te Araroa on the East Cape. Giving KOBEE Bee Nutrition a go for the first time in late 2016, Mark is immediately impressed with the results.
“The product works well for me,” he confirms. “The hives are a lot stronger and the bees are lasting a lot longer – they are just in better condition.”
Incorporating KOBEE into his regular feeding programme, Mark mixes 20ml per litre of sugar syrup before placing it into the feeders. The results have been obvious and Mark credits using KOBEE for making his bees healthier than he has ever seen them before.
“I have never seen them this strong at this time of season before. Even after a bad year, they are looking good. I’m spending a lot more money on sugar syrup because the bees are hungrier and stronger, and the hive is more active but I’m very happy with the product and the results.”
Initially Mark was using KOBEE in every feed but he cut back once the weather cooled down as he noticed the Queen was staying too active and kept laying eggs. He reduced his use over the winter time to quiet her down a bit. However, once spring returns, Mark will kick start the hives again by adding KOBEE back into the feed.
